Hey Trenndians - Let's have some fun.
Yeah... all of Uptrennd is invited!
This will unfold with your help, IF you choose to be a player. The invitation is for all, but not all will genuinely participate. It's ok. Focus on building your part. Let's get started.
Uptrennd City was a booming metropolis. People came from miles around to enjoy the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the city! The theaters were fabulous, restaurants - top of the line, museums - renowned, clubs - exclusive, luxurious parks and ponds, designer boutiques, seafront with yachts galore! Everyone wanted to be a part of this brand new city that was thriving - and promising to become greater with each new day! The Mayor was an enthusiastic, kind fellow - and shouted to all who could hear, that Uptrennd City was the place to be!
And so all did come!
It was lively - with so many different kinds of people! So many cultures in one community! So many bright new ideas! It started off wonderful! Excitement, energy, love and laughter! But then the Trenndians invited more and more people to come join in the fun, and soon, the streets became packed. It was harder to find reservations in the restaurants. The luxurious open spaces of the parks became littered with trash. No one stopped to truly enjoy the greenery, they simply said "nice flowers" and rushed to work. The real estate sky-rocketed, it was a bad time to buy. The traffic became congested, streets filled, people rushed by one another. Pollution began to increase. People stopped taking time to visit friends, but quickly passed each other in the streets with a superficial "Good morning" or "Good night."
The growth wasn't the problem. Everyone had wanted to grow bigger and better and more appealing!
But the problem was - they weren't PREPARED for the growth.
And then... the crime began to hit an all-time high. The worst gang of all descended unto Uptrennd City: Socially Polluted Aggressive Marauders. Of course, that was a mouthful to say - so everyone just called them SPAMmers.
They trashed everything in sight. They stole from people. They threw garbage in front of every house. And just when all the Trenndians didn't think it could get any worse - they multiplied in number. They came by the thousands and overran the entire city like a true infestation.
Some people said "Let's just ignore them and they'll eventually go away." Those people got robbed as soon as they went to work, losing everything they had worked so hard to achieve.
Some people shouted out against them and fought them back, but the gangs multiplied and told the police, "It's unfair! How do we know we're doing wrong? We are being mistreated! Help us and punish them!!!" And the SPAMmers got immunity for a little while, and even got more room to grow and destroy.
Trenndians began to abandon their homes, leave their jobs, and run away to other nearby towns. The other towns weren't half as fun as Uptrennd City used to be - but they felt that they had no hope, no joy, and no light. The real estate crashed. No one wanted to buy a home there - why? It seemed worthless now.
Restaurants closed. The parks were silent. Businesses closed down. Theatre groups moved away. Only a small group of hopeful Trenndians remained. But did that stop the SPAMmers?
No. They still lingered, scrounging for every scrap they could steal. Pilfering every last bit of hopefulness in the hearts of the True Trenndians that remained.
One day, one of the last remaining policeman had an idea. He began to put up signs for other nearby towns. Maybe, he thought, if he could give them another alternative - the SPAMmers would be lured away?
He spent time carefully crafting attractive billboards all around Uptrennd City, telling them about other places that had appeal. The SPAMmers looked around at Uptrennd City and schemed nastily with one another.
"Why stay here? Look at it - it's worthless now! Let's take our gangs and descend upon another metropolis! Look! Up there! Swirgetown looks like we will have feasts for days there!" They cheered and high-fived, and ran out of Uptrennd City - leaving chaos and discouragement in their wake.
The community was relieved that they had finally gone! The Trenndians were downcast, broken-hearted, but still their hearts shined for Uptrennd City. They knew it would take a lot of work, especially since the Mayor had been shipwrecked on his last business trip. Uptrennd City felt lost without their leader, but the community decided to have a meeting outside the Town Hall to rally.
"We are doomed without the Mayor!"
"We can't rebuild these buildings! They're too big!"
"How are we supposed to lure the arts back - there is no one here to see the shows!"
"The trash is EVERYWHERE. How can we get our reputation back? Why would anyone love Uptrennd City now?"
The sadness was growing, and the morale was sinking until a small voice was heard in the back.
"I have an idea."
It was Ti-Elle. The Trenndians waited for her to continue.
"Don't forget why we came to Uptrennd City in the first place. Remember what the Mayor painted on the ground as a reminder to us?"
The crowd looked down at all the uplifting phrases painted throughout the Town Square.
The lady in the back continued, "The Mayor is gone, but hasn't he brought us all together with a unified vision? Why can't we step up and become the leaders of the city? The buildings are massive and will take time to rebuild, but look! So many of the fabulous homes of Uptrennd City are all open now. Let's move in and live large, since real estate is so inexpensive. Think of how valuable our property will be when Uptrennd City is restored! What do you mean there is no one here to see the shows??? WE are here. We can support and encourage and patronize them! And yeah - wow. Yes...there is trash everywhere - no thanks to the thieving SPAMmers!" Ti-Elle growled. "But we get our reputation back the same way we do everything we do now. With hard work, and patience, and dedication. Why would anyone love Uptrennd City now? Because it's amazing. We just need to invite the RIGHT kind of people back here - people who have hearts to see beyond the outside and look for the potential that's here."
Some of the Trenndians started to nod their heads and get excited. Others still had some doubts.
"But we can't just wish it back to place. We need plans, and roles, and...and money!"
Ti-Elle agreed. "Yes, yes, and yes. I saved a bit from the good days, and I'm willing to donate to help."
"How much?" said Emm Dee.
"One hundred thousand." Ti-Elle stated, while the group gasped.
"You're just gonna give that away?" questioned Emm Dee.
"Of course not. Have to see how it all comes together first - see if plans are solid. See if people are in the right roles. See who takes it seriously. See who still believes. See who is ready to create a NEW Uptrennd City that will be PREPARED for growth." Ti-Elle closed her eyes and smiled, as if she was envisioning an even better city than before!
"What do we do?"
"Let's get started!"
The crowd was starting to see that same vision - and they were pumped.
"Well, the first step is joining the team, and moving into a new home! Have you been wanting to move into a yacht? Move into the conservatory of the Library? Grab that swanky loft above the theatre?
