While many of us rediscovered the wonder of exercising in the great outdoors, the summer heat can make the prospect seem far less appealing. Yes, this is the peak of the summer in Australia, but we still enjoy our outing and have fun.
We go to the beaches at the first opportunity
Most of us live close to beaches, but even if we don’t, we don’t mind driving a few hours to head to the best beaches on the planet.
Yes, Australia has some of the best beaches anywhere in the world and the beaches are always high on Australians’ workout priority list. For a no-frills workout, we try doing our regular run on sand.
The extra effort and muscle engagement required to run on the sand means it burns more calories compared to running on a running-path. Then water sports such as surfing, paddle boating, and windsurfing are another great way to cool down and work up a sweat.
There are many reasons to give these water sports a go, but most of all they are low impact and utilize almost every moving part of our body, whilst balancing the whole time. We focus on core strength, balance, and the best part, any age can give it a go.
Go for a team sport
Activities like beach-ball, football, and netball all are good for a team sport, a great way of socializing and get your vitamin D. You can get a serious calorie burn with a whole range of team sports while it makes you accountable to others, which in itself is a great reason.
And another motivation to get out of your bed early morning and head to a beach.
It does inside out for me
Taking advantage of these beautiful, crisp early summer mornings by transferring my regular gym workout to the outdoors, which I do even when I am not on a beach, I go to the nearest park and take full advantage outdoors. This always includes movements such as body weight exercises.
Most bodyweight exercises are multi-joint exercises for me and therefore super-effective. A bodyweight exercise in particular always enhances coordination, balance, and mobility.
Now what I will do
I am in Canberra right, no going to beaches because of restrictions. I was feeling a little adventure this Sunday morning, so I grabbed my exercise mat, stepped outside, went to the park across the road, a vast green space with all the exercising facilities and equipment by the council.
I will go Bushwalking this evening in green
We have a team bushwalking plan in the spectacular scenery in Canberra that is an effective workout too. We have a plan to spend two hours in that area which is a perfect picnic area and enjoy the evening with our friends spending time in green spaces with lot of fun and joy.
