Ethereum HAS NOT impressed upon the public the complexity and realistic implementation time of True, high-security Sharding, layer 2 solutions and PoW to PoS transition.
Meanwhile, other projects built from the ground up as PoS with hyper-scalability are creeping up and could catch them with their pants down.
Sure, they have a first mover, network effect advantage now. But that hasn't stopped several projects from moving to another blockchain (preferably their own) or rival platforms.
