Death Elemental Weekly Battle Challenge || Ep. #51 || Splinterlands

This week's battle challenge focuses on the Death Elemental:

Death is one of the elemental forces of nature, which can be summoned in its raw form by a skilled Dark Eternal summoner. The dark and whispy energetic form is a terrifying force in battle. The Lord of Darkness refuses to call Death Elementals by their rightful name, insisting that theirs is not a magic of death, but life.

Card

An Untamed rare level monster from the Death Splinter at level 1:

  • Estimated cost: $0.083

  • Mana cost: 3

  • Magic attack: 1

  • Speed: 3

  • Health: 2

  • Snipe ability: Target enemy monsters with range, magic or no attack not in the first position

The Death Elemental is a card I don't often use at all, and therefore I haven't leveled the card up to a useful level. At level 1, the stats are okay, and if I were to use it in a battle, it would most likely be used in low mana cap battles as a filler monster card. The Death Elemental is a cheaper alternative if you are looking for a magic monster with the snipe ability, but if I want to play a snipe monster from the Death Splinter, it will always be the Twisted Jester.

Battle - Full Battle Replay

Battle Details

  • Mana cap: 18

  • Ruleset(s): Keep Your Distance, Healed Out

Lineup

  • Gelatinous Cube - passive tank and healing after every round

  • Mantoid - primary damage dealer with snipe ability

  • Death Elemental - support damage with snipe ability

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

No - I was surprised at my opponent playing Spirit Miner in the main tank position. In hindsight, this strategy is what won the battle. Had my opponent played a No Attack monster in position 1, I think I may have won it. Once the Gelatinous Cube went down, and Mantoid moved into position 1, the battle was lost. The Death Elemental surprisingly was useful in this battle, chipping away at the enemy's backline monsters. Still, if I had played the more superior Twisted Jester in this battle, I would've fared much better.

Do you like the Death Elemental? Why or why not?

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to the Dwarven Wizard, who is the only other magic monster at level 1 with the snipe ability, then it might be worth a look. However, when I play Death Splinter, I will almost always look to play the Twisted Jester as I feel it offers more damage and has more health. For Death Elemental to become useful, you need it at level #6 (2 magic damage, 2 health, 2 abilities), which would cost you ~$7.2 vs. Twisted Jester, who becomes very useful at level 5 (3 range damage, 5 health, 2 abilities) which would cost you ~$3.9.
