She was running in the forest searching for some way out of it. She did not how she had reached there. When her eyes were opened, she found herself lying on the grass of the forest, far away from her home. The first thing she felt was solitude and the very next feeling was fear. She stood up and started walking barefooted.
“What if I couldn’t find my way? What if I fall prey to some predator? What would I do for my survival if I cannot reach my home soon? What would I do if the night approached here?” One after the other various thoughts kept on coming in her mind. “Life has always been cruel to me. It has always shown its ugly face to me.” She thought hopelessly. The thoughts made her more anxious. She started running, keeping her eyes in the surroundings to keep her safe from the anticipated attack of some predators. While running she felt irritated by the mud that was coming in her way now and then.
It had been hours since she was running from one corner to the other. She realized the forest wasn’t too big but it was packed with mountains. There was no route to the outer world. The hunger and the thirst slowed her down.
Realizing the fact that she wasn’t able to get out of the place, she sat down to settle her breath. Then she started looking around in search of water and food. There was a small brook nearby. She went there and drank water from it. Along the side of the brook, she saw mushrooms. She ate them. They were unusually delicious.
Sitting near the brook she looked at the surrounding calmly. The copper colour of rocks and stones fascinated her a lot.
“Now, this place is my home until I find some way to get out of here. I need to calm down for absorbing this fact.” Thinking this she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She heard the sound of a waterfall that added magic to her meditation. After a while, she stood up and went towards the place from where the sound was coming.
She looked towards the waterfall. The crystal clear water was coming from the top of some amazing colored mountains.
“I had been to this site several times while I was running but I never noticed the beauty of this scene and the soothing sound of the waterfall.” She closed her eyes to feel this all deeper into her soul.
This time she also noticed the melodious voices of birds and the soft music of the breeze. She felt lighter and relaxed.
She started walking, observing the beauty of this place. The amazing colors and designs of trees amazed her the same way as did the mountains. “I have never found such a peace and beauty together,” she admitted.
Her feet touched the mud again. It shifted her attention towards the ground. There was something to amaze her. Lotuses of various colors were floating over the mud.
“Wow! What a beauty!” she exclaimed. She took one of them and brought it closer to her nostrils. The scent of the flower soothed her deeper inside.
The sun was about to set. She looked towards the sky. It was equally beautiful. The sun rays were making the lining of clouds shining with gold.
As soon as the darkness of night approached, there appeared several spots of light.
“Fireflies!” she said. “How would I be able to see this beauty if I didn’t stay here till the night?”
She wasn’t anxious anymore but was happy to be there. She lied down on the ground, facing the sky. There was another thing waiting for her attention. As she looked towards the sky, she admitted she had never seen such a beautiful sky. She felt like she was in a paradise. The sky was filled with numerous twinkling stars.
“Can we see this many stars with naked eyes in our cities?” she asked herself. “No, the light pollution never allows us to see this. The beauty can be witnessed only in profound darkness.”
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes. Before reaching the valley of sleep, she heard the whisper of the breeze.
“Just be sure to notice the collateral beauty. It's the profound connection to everything. ”
When she woke up she was on her bed. Her pillow was wet with her tears. It took her some moments to get her consciousness back. She reminded she kept on weeping the whole night because of mishaps of her life.
It was the sleep that took her to visit the forest and let her understand that she needed to shift her focus towards the collateral beauty in her unfortunate circumstances of life.
