Gaming is one massive sector globally, non-gamers most of the time underrate how big and lucrative the sector is. Globally, the gaming sector has reached the revenue of over $143 billion in 2020.
It is a sector that more people are paying more attention to of recent, especially now that game developers are building on the blockchain. But even before the option of building on blockchain came up, famers have been spending and making money while playing games.
Games allow users to create profiles and be able to spend fiat (local currency) to buy in-game assets. These assets become the property of users and are used to accumulate/earn more, which they can decide to either sell or keep.
Participating in competitions is what gamers live for, this is where winners are handsomely rewarded. The mode and type of competition is decided by the developers and the users partake with the hope of taking home the grand/consolation prize as the case might be. Purchase of in-game assets boost the chances of ending at the top of the leader board, which is explainable.
Trust is a big issue when it comes to these competitions, especially when it is involving high scores. As some users sometimes find a way to manipulate the scores, which is unfair other users.
This type of situation is why game developers are making use of the blockchain to build their game. Apart from the settling the issue of trust, DApps on blockchain are powerful and very scalable when built on the right platform.
On the blockchain, purchase of in-game assets will be made solely with cryptocurrencies. And the assets are called NFT(Non Fungible Token).

An example of a game where the blockchain's trust feature is used is Creepts.
Creepts is the world’s first decentralized tower defense tournament game, and it is deployed on Cartesi. The game is built in a way that the player with the highest score wins, players compete in a real-time browser-based Tower Defense game map.
The tournament which the game is played is off-chain but they will be required to commit their high-scores to the blockchain(on-chain), the winner will then be decided through the Creepts's smart contract.
Building Creepts on Cartesi enables the game to have its features on-chain and also off-chain, making the game scalable, powerful and also cheat-resistant.
Cartesi makes it possible for any Creepts player to reproduce the game play of another player's score automatically. This feature makes it hard for a player to report an manipulated high score, as any other player can use Cartesi to obtain the real score based on the game moves of the cheat.
The player that manipulated the score can be challenged and defeated using Cartesi smart contracts, with disqualification too.

Creepts is a very good example of why game developers can take advantage of the many possibilities and computational power of Cartesi, as powerful and scalable game dapps are possible, while using any preferred programming languages as long it runs on Linux OS.
